June 16 is when metal enthusiasts from across the country head to Bengaluru. Bangalore Open Air, supported by the Wacken Open Air, is bringing to the city one of the most renowned heavy metal festivals. “I am looking forward to new music that I haven’t heard before,” says Deepak Nambiar, an engineer.

International and national acts will be a part of this festival. Deepak adds, “Growing up, I used to listen to Kreator and Iced Earth. Kreator is the biggest Teutonic thrash metal band from Germany and Iced Earth are the American-based power metal titans. Most of these bands are metal and the country has never seen a metal festival of this magnitude.”

These bands are also looking forward to their performances at the BOA because of the expected 7,000 people crowd. Sushmit Mazumdar, a member of 1833 AD says, “We are going to play new songs from our new album.”

The festival will feature 12-hours of non-stop headbanging music spread across two stages. “It is an honour to open for the headlining act. This will be an event that may change the face of rock music in the country. The festival also gives exposure to underground bands that have a huge fan following. The visual effects during the performance, the fireworks and the effects on stage will add value to this metal gig,” says Nolan Lewis, the vocalist of Kryptos.

People are coming in large numbers from Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Ooty. Amrita Datta, a programming executive, says, “The rhythm that metal music gives you is unique and provides a real kick.” Talking about this event that is expected to be an annual event, Salman U Syed, founder of Infinite Dreams says, “The market for heavy metal in India is growing rapidly. The massive turnouts when Metallica and Iron Maiden played here gave us a preview. India is going through the same phase that the Bay Area went through, back in the early 80s. Five years down the line, we should see this grow on the lines of Rock in Rio.”

Many bands are also taking part in the Wacken Open Air Metal Battle. “This boosts the future generation of heavy metal and rock musicians. This is the perfect platform for upcoming act,” says Sushmit.

What is the evil clown?
Dominic Deville, an evil birthday clown stalks your child for a fee. Attention parents. Just in case your children don’t have anything to talk about in therapy, here’s something you might want to consider. Dominic Deville rents himself out as an ‘evil birthday clown’ who leaves scary notes for your children, warning them that they’re being watched and that they’ll soon be attacked. At the end of a terrifying week, your child will indeed be attacked. Deville, wearing a freaky clown mask, will smash a cake into your child’s face. He wears a zombie clown suit, and sends letters, texts and creepy calls to the child. But, if you or your child suffers from coulrophobia, the fear of clowns, this perhaps is not such a good idea.

Why was he arrested for no fault?
Identical twins share a lot of things — a birth date, a womb and the same looks. But, they’re entitled to their own rap sheet. Mitch Torbett from Signal Mountain in Tennessee spent two days behind bars trying to convince the police that they were looking for his twin brother, Mike. Torbett was arrested last week for a federal crime his identical twin is accused of in Louisiana, before dying two years ago. The affidavit of the previous crime that had to have taken place at least two years ago, before Mike died, listed Mike’s name on the affidavit. Since that is not so on the arrest warrant, authorities believe that Mike must have given his brother’s name instead of his own.

Where is the Treehotel?
This hotel in Sweden has perfected the idea of a tree hotel. Hotels that have rooms in trees can be found in numerous places. But what sets Sweden’s Treehotel apart is how much effort is put into it. Where other hotels often have smaller bungalow-type huts, the Treehotel has rooms with breakfast, lunch, dinner, spa, TV and internet. One of the rooms is covered on the outside with mirrors, making it nearly look like camouflage and help preserve the more natural look of the environment around. Treehotel offers you a unique hotel experience — treerooms with contemporary design in the middle of unspoiled nature. Here you can forget about the time constraints of everyday life, enjoy the serenity, and rejuvenate in a sophisticated, yet familiar environment.

Who is Tap Tronic?
Tap Tronic are two Indian dance professionals who skilfully amalgamate dubstep with Irish dance. Now, Indian brothers Johnnathan and Joshua Gerard have stepped up with their own take on the electronic genre’s moves. Naturally, they’ve named it Gerardam, after themselves. They have incorporated contouring, miming, hair tutting and shoulder blade tutting. These brothers have coined their new style Indian Dubstep.
