The trail of music has never ended from the beautiful state of Sikkim. Right from the mid 90’s many bands have came up with their fabulous music that can rejuvenate the soul of every music lover.

Well, I have a great love for the music from Sikkim because they have always succeeded in fascinating me as well as the mainstream music scenario. Few days back, I was just checking out some bands from Gangtok and I got to hear this new progressive metal giants Eyestill The band comprises of:

Sulav Nepal (Vocals)

Abhinav Giri (Guitars)

Kuru Ing-T (Guitars)

Karan Moktan /Kaku (Drums )

Hangso Wang Subba (Bass)

Eyestill was formed in the winter of January, 2012 by three best friends Abhinav, Kaku and Hangso. They previously played in a band named MTP. Later Surlav and Kuru who shared the same musical tastes as them, joined them and EYESTILL was formed.

After playing in a row of 4-5 gigs, they recently released their debut EP DECOY comprising of 5 songs (which includes one intro). The EP is recorded and mixed at Wavemath Studios (Gangtok/Kolkata) by Abhinav Giri . Mastered at Soundchain Studios, Gangtok and Produced by Eyestill.

Talking about their EP, in each song you will get an amalgamation of different sub-genres. The EP starts with an upright ambient intro which I must say a classic start to it. Extinct Reality and Victim Of Your Creation are the next two songs where you will get a complete progressive and fragmented djent feel. To be more precise, you can hear a Chimp Spanner influence.

Coming to the next two songs, “Breed” and “Benighted and Obscure”, you will get a mainstream ambient feel. Keeping in mind about their influences and the style of playing, I would say that this EP is one of the best I have ever listened. With top-notch production, overtly technical riffs, blast beat drums, shrilling vocals the EP sounds extremely good. Being a huge fan of djent and progressive metal, I am quite excited to witness this band live and if you are too, them go and give them a listen.
