Well, when I had a band during high school I was really into this “Alternative Rock” genre (which doesn’t seem to happen at a certain age). It’s true that the alternative music hasn’t received a mainstream audience in India, but has the potential to earn a wider audience.

Coming to North-East, a few years back there were only few bands of this genre. But in the yesteryears many bands have emerged following this trail of music. One of such bands is “Virgin Creep” formed in the late winter of 2010. Hailing from Guwahati, the band comprises of 5 members-

Anurag Sharma-Vocals

Adnan Ahmed –Bass

Guitars-Mustaba Hasan

Guitars-Suprativ Rabha

Drums & Percussion-Himanka Ojha

Keys-Jahnu Bora

They will be releasing their debut EP “Awakening” which is a compilation of songs like Fahrenheit 571 which gives a classic start to the EP with crunchy guitar riffs and fabulous drums and vocals. For more details, you have to listen to the other songs and then you will be able to make a comparison with the above mentioned track.

“Becoming a Prisoner”, “This Insanity” and “Fallen Out” includes hard-rock inspired choruses, blast beat drums with upright vocals. One thing I would like to mention here, the production of the songs are top-notch. Keeping in my mind about their quality of playing, the songs are well versed with proper execution. The EP ends up with an acoustic version of the previous song “Becoming A Prisoner.

Talking about the overall EP, it’s very well lyrically themed with mid 90’s alternative music. The EP is recorded, mixed and mastered at “Lucid Recess Studio” by Siddharth Barooa and Amitabh Barooa. The song “Fallen Out” was recorded at “Studio Dreamcatcher”, mixed and mastered by Siddhant Das. If you are an alternative music fan then just four words from me “Go and Grab it”!!
